I am very excited to be introducing rehabilitative services to Beddington Chiropractic and Massage!
When we talk about rehabilitation, the goal is to bring a patient’s body back to a normally functioning state.
Rehabilitation doesn’t have to just relate to acute injuries (for example giving people exercises after a whiplash injury in a car accident). Injury can also build over time, from micro injury; for example, sitting at a desk days on end can lead to slow weakening of some tissues and over stretching of other tissues leading to imbalance and chronic repetitive injury, often resulting in the perception of pain and discomfort.
With personalized rehabilitative sessions, my goal is to work with a patient, 1:1, focusing on biomechanics, areas of weakness, injury, pain, ergonomics, or whatever it may be, to restore their body to its happy and properly functioning state. All rehabilitation sessions are personalized to the individuals needs and desires, assessing the weaknesses and providing knowledge and education to help correct them.
The majority of rehabilitative sessions will be dedicated to re-training the mind to connect with the body (mind:muscle connection). Taking the knowledge, a patient learns from their rehabilitative sessions will guide them in every other activity they do throughout the day. It can be thought of as the building blocks of general activity.
When we do rehab sessions together, my desire is to bridge the gap between passive physical treatment (adjustments, soft tissue therapy, etc.) and a patient’s active self-care. Combining these two concepts will lead to a faster and more well-rounded recovery.
Being involved in an elite sport since the age of 7, and going through the rigorous and demanding training to become a chiropractor, I have picked up many rehabilitative concepts along my athletic and educational journey. Since a young age, I have been blessed to work with a large number of coaches, mentors, personal trainers, flexibility instructors, sport psychologists, and educators, which has shaped not only my passion for helping others with their rehabilitative needs, but shaping my understanding of what is necessary to restore a body to a fully functioning state.
As chiropractors, part of our training is coaching and guiding our patients in rehabilitative practices. By adding this service to Beddington Chiropractic and Massage, I hope that it will continue to push my patients in the direction of understanding their bodies better and functioning at their full potential!
